Let’s face it. Real estate can be a very busy and stressful profession. Many of you often find yourselves juggling multiple tasks on a regular basis. Your typical business day fills up fast and can include a host of different activities! How can a busy real estate agent like you squeeze in anymore activities than you are already without feeling squeezed yourself?
Here are 5 tips we’d like to share with you on how to improve your time management skills as a real estate agent:
- Start the day with a plan
Your business is too important to go the day without a plan. Draw up a detailed one for the key activities for success. Set your long and mid-range plans in place before extracting from these the daily activities you will need to accomplish the goals you have in mind.
- Doit now, don't procrastinate
If your tasks for the day require an activity that you aren’t fond of, do it first. Getting past it will give you a lift and make the rest of the day a leisurely stroll in the park. It is also best to do those hated things when you’re fresh so that when you’re done with them, you can look forward to the more fun things rather than the other way around.
- Use effective task management systems
Get the most out of your day with a good planning system. Embrace technology and find a good mobile or desktop application that can help to organize and manage your tasks. Whatever your potion may be, it is best to avoid working with yellow sticky-notes all over the place as it can be a mess and a distraction.
- Prevent interruptions to your plans
It’s easy to get distracted these days so you have to execute your plans with discipline and efficiency. Technology today may allow us to work remotely from home away from the noise and prying eyes but you should always set aside some time out for a break and when to jump back into your work.
- Keep disappointment and negativity away
Your buyers’ change of heart is common and can prevent you from closing the deal. You can't avoid this but you can prevent it from impacting your ability to rework your plan. Remember, it’s your plan that produces all the successful transactions, so you’ll be better off jumping right back in after a disappointment!
Time management requires focusing on your goals and priorities, whether you are new to the real estate industry or not. Create a time-saving system to help you work more efficiently so you can have more time to spend at home with your family and friends and achieve an ideal balance between your professional and your personal life – a task that many real estate agents find challenging.
