Real estate agents usually have plenty to juggle at any given moment while conducting their business affairs and that doesn’t even include the various unicycles, skateboards and scooters that they often have to ride at the same time. Given such scenarios, it is understandable that bad habits can develop.

Some can have devastating effects on your business, so with that in mind, here are 4 habits that you should take the pains to avoid:

  • Not Following Through

Your buyers depend on you for many things but they won't be too pleased if you don’t follow through on what you promised to do. Avoid making empty promises to your buyers and stop to take a step back and think about what you’re actually promising them and whether it’s feasible.

  • Avoiding Accountability

Even the most talented real estate agents make mistakes but how they handle those mistakes will determine what direction their business takes. Owning up to any mishaps will earn you credibility and may even help you level better with your buyers.

  • Being Inconsistent

Consistency is even more important now in today's constant communication. Set a speed for your business which you are able to maintain and set your buyers’ expectations along those parameters.

  • Not Listening

This one should go without saying that we still hear from buyers and fellow agents on how difficult it can be connecting with other real estate professionals. You may be super confident in what your buyers need, but if your recommendations do not get with what they actually told you in the first place, then you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Setting the tone from the start of your relationship with buyers will allow them to know what to expect from you. Make sure you maintain open and honest communication with them at all times. Doing so will build the trust between your buyers and you. Remember that you’re their ally and you should always treat them the way you want to be treated.
